How to Turn On Voice Chat in Roblox (2026)
Updated October 15, 2026
Voice chat in Roblox is locked until you pass an age check. Once you do, it takes one toggle to turn on. Here's the full process and what to do if it doesn't show up.
Requirements
- You must pass Roblox's age check (most regions: 13 or older).
- Voice chat must be available in your country.
- The game you join must have voice chat turned on by its developer — many don't.
- If your account is managed by a parent, parental controls can still block voice.
Roblox changes its age-check rules from time to time and they differ by country. If anything here doesn't match what you see, Roblox's own help page (linked below) is the final word.
Step 1: Verify your age
- Open Roblox and go to Settings (the gear icon, or the ••• menu on mobile).
- Open the Privacy (or Privacy & Content) tab.
- If Voice Chat is locked, tap Verify Age.
- Follow the prompts. Roblox uses a third-party service, and may ask for a selfie video or a government ID.
- Wait for confirmation — usually minutes, sometimes longer.
Step 2: Turn voice chat on
- Go back to Settings → Privacy.
- Switch on the Voice Chat (Use Microphone) toggle.
- Choose who can talk to you.
- Join a game that supports voice — you'll see a microphone icon above your avatar.
Voice chat still not working?
- Check that Roblox has microphone permission on your phone or computer.
- Make sure the right microphone is selected in your device's sound settings.
- Try a different experience — voice may be off in the one you joined.
- Fully close and reopen Roblox after verifying.
- Look for a parental control setting that disables voice.
